Sometimes the most interesting projects come from experimeting with new ways to broaden your skillset.

While tinkering with the Arnold renderer for Maya, I wanted to see how a cloth simulation running with a metal material would interact with Arnold's physically accurate lighting engine. As the results grew with consecutive additions - the ceiling fan, bars, lighting constraints - it reached a point where I decided to pop the render into After Effects and give it some life. With some animation, color correction/distortion and soundscaping, this simulation turned into something concept-worthy. I leaned towards something sci-fi, abstract dread, something confined that quickly shows why it should remain so.
It ended up reminding me of a fantastic animation called Project Astartes by Syama Pedersen.
